Bird Sound Design (Workshop)

Bird Sound Design is a one-day workshop exploring bird sounds through digital analysis and synthesis. Understand bird calls, trills and songs, then recreate them using Max/MSP, starting with simple sounds and building up to more complex ones. Leave with your own collection of bird sounds and techniques for creating nature-inspired soundscapes.

Birds have been experimenting with sounds long before humans walked the earth. Learn from their ancient wisdom and imitate their songs!

Join us at Zwitschermaschine for a hands-on workshop exploring birdsong through listening, analysis and synthesis using Max by Cycling ’74.

We will:
- Listen to and analyse birdsong using spectrograms
- Start with simple chirps and build up to intricate calls and trills
- Synthesize complex sounds using oscillators, envelopes, modulation and filters
- Combine your creations into a collective bird soundscape

These skills carry over beyond birds and apply to sound design for films, games, installations or electroacoustic music.

Location: Zwitschermaschine, Potsdamer Str. 161, 10783 Berlin
Date: Saturday, November 14 · 12:00–18:00
Ticket: €60 (Standard) · €40 (Early-bird until Nov 3rd)
Limited seats available, workshop in English

Bring your laptop with Max installed (free 30-day trial is enough), headphones, and recordings of bird sounds you'd like to recreate. No prior experience with Max required.

The workshop will be followed by an evening concert session featuring invited artists and a collective birdsound jam by the workshop participants. More info soon!
